Leisure Time

Interview with Rod

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Rod: IN RIVERSIDE COUNTY, THEY DON'T HAVE TOO MANY PROGRAMS TO PASS THE TIME. BASICALLY THEY HAVE BOOKS, HOWEVER, THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF THEM AS WELL. PEOPLE FIGHT OVER ANY GOOD BOOKS THAT MIGHT BE IN YOUR DORM.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Rod: SOMETIMES YOU GOT IN WITH A BUNCH THAT WERE MORE AGGRESSIVE THAN OTHERS. BUT NOBODY EVER MESSES WITH ME, I AM ABOUT 6'3" APPROX. 245 LBS. SO, I NEVER NOTICED ANY OF THAT GOING ON.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Rod: I DON'T WORK OUT IN JAIL. I BASICALLY, EAT AND SLEEP AND WATCH TV.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Rod: YOU GOT OFFERED REC ROOM OR ROOF TIME AS IT IS CALLES 3 TIMES A WEEK. SOMETIMES VERY VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Rod: YES. WE WERE OFFERED CHURCH. IT WAS OFFERED ON SUNDAY. THEY HAD SINGING SOMETIMES. IT WAS NICE TO JUST GET OUT OF YOUR CELL.
